Welcome! In this video, I am going to show you how to edit your audio files for your movie with Adobe Audition, and how to use just a small part of the program. The textbook, Chapters 11 and 12, and the lesson files for those chapters will help you learn about all the ins and outs of Adobe Audition. I recommend that you open the chapter lesson files and work your way through the chapters.
However, in this short video, I am only going to show you how to access the Adobe Audition program from within the Adobe Premiere Pro and how to make a few adjustments for your audio.
Let’s start Adobe Premiere Pro and load our movie. I will start with my Example of Week Four Finished Video Trailer that I would like to make a few changes to the audio.
With your movie loaded and on the time line, place your mouse pointer on the bottom audio track and right-click on it and then left-click on Edit Clip in Adobe Audition.
Within a few seconds, your audio file will open in Adobe Audition.
We are ready to make some adjustments to our audio file, but first let’s click on Play at the bottom to listen to the track and then click the Stop button. Drag the play head back to the start, all the way to the left.
Let’s select the area from 3.0 to 18.0 by placing our mouse just below the 3.0 play head area and clicking and dragging to 18.0. You will see it is highlighted. We also have an adjustment dialog.
Now using the Adjustment dialog, place your mouse pointer on the left item in the dialog and you will get a double-pointed arrow. Hold it down and drag it left or right to adjust the selected area of the audio track. I am going to turn down the db level (volume) by dragging it to the left.
Note: You can work on both left and right audio tracks at once as I have done, or one at a time only by clicking on the L or R button. This will turn the track on or off.
Now let’s drag the play head back to the start, and click on the Play button to see what we have. Continue to make adjustments to the sound track until you are happy with your work.
We are happy with all of our adjustments, so let’s go to File on the menu in Adobe Audition and click on Save As.
You will then see the following window, accept the defaults. Click OK.
You may see this next dialog box pop up telling you that you have a file by the same name and asking if you want to replace it. Say Yes to overwrite the original audio track, or No to give this one a different name.
Now go back to File on the Menu and down to Exit, and you will be taken back to Adobe Premiere.
Click on the Play button to make sure you are happy with your Audio adjustment.
Once you are happy with all of your changes and are done with all of your additions to your Video Trailer, save your movie and export it. Remember to add your movie to your video web page and to submit your work to the Dropbox.
NOTE: Remember that if you use the Lessons 11 and 12 files along with the steps in the textbook, you will learn about all the ins and outs of Adobe Audition.
