Welcome! In this video, I am going to introduce you to another Audio editing program called Audacity. It is free and there is a link to download the program in the Course Resources section/Web Links.
Once you have downloaded and installed the program, you will probably need a little help in using the program. So in this short video, I want to help you get started.
There is a whole tutorial section to help you learn to use the program. Just click on the Help tab.
Then click on the Manuals and Documentation link.
Now go ahead and open Audacity. Click on the OK button in the dialog box that opens.
Now let’s make a simple recording. First, click on the big red button in the toolbar and start talking. It will start recording and show you the sounds bars. When you are done, click on the Stop button.
Click the Play button to hear what you just recorded—you will see just how easy it is to make a recording. Now let us work on a file to make some adjustments. Go to File and click on New, and now go back to File on the menu and down to Import and then Audio, and then select the file you want to work on.
You now see the file you just opened.
To make adjustments to an area, we first need to select the area we want to adjust. In this case, I will select from 3.0 to 12.0 by placing the mouse just below the 3.0 and getting a cursor and dragging it to the 12.0.
Now that I have an area selected, I can make adjustments to it. Go to Effect on the menu and down to Fade Out.
Click on the Play button to hear the change. It’s still not low enough, so reselect the area and go to Effect on the menu and Fade Out again. Then click on the play button—better.
Continue to make your adjustments until you are happy with your audio file.
Once you are happy with the audio, we need to export the file. Go to Menu and down to Export.
Now either save the file with the same name over the original, or give it a new name and save.
You will then see the following Meta Data Dialog Window. Just click OK.
Once the file is saved, you can exit Audacity and go back to Adobe Premiere and import the audio file and place it on the timeline as needed.
